We sort every transaction on your bank and credit card statements into income and expense categories, and send you a profit & loss, an expense summary and tax-ready totals in Excel or Google Sheets.

Small businesses that never set up accounting software.

Especially useful at tax time, when all you have is a stack of statements.

How it works

Four steps, mostly done by us.

Step 1

Upload

Send statements for each account and period to a secure shared folder.

Step 2

Categorize

We sort every transaction and separate transfers and owner draws from real expenses.

Step 3

Questions

Anything unclear goes on one short list for you to answer.

Step 4

Deliver

Your finished workbook, reviewed by a CPA. We can also file the return.

What statements can show

What's included, and what needs more information.

Bank statements show cash in and cash out. That covers most of what small businesses need. For a full balance sheet, we need a few more details from you.

Included

  • Every transaction categorized
  • Profit & loss for the period
  • Expense summary by category
  • Transfers and owner draws separated
  • Tax-ready totals for your return

Needs more from you

  • A full balance sheet (loan balances, equipment, vehicles)
  • Money customers still owe you
  • Bills you haven't paid yet
  • Inventory on hand

Ready to move to software later? We can load everything into QuickBooks and switch you to monthly bookkeeping.

FAQ

Bank statement bookkeeping questions.

What format do my statements need to be in?

PDF statements from your bank's website are fine. CSV or Excel downloads are even better. Scanned paper statements work too.

I use my personal account for some business expenses. Is that a problem?

No. Send that account too and we will pick out the business transactions. Keeping a separate business account going forward makes it simpler and cheaper.

Is this enough to file my taxes?

For most freelancers and small businesses, yes. The workbook gives the income and expense totals your return needs. We can prepare and file the return for you too.

Do you need my bank login?

No. You download the statements yourself and upload them to a secure folder. We never ask for bank passwords.

Can you do past years?

Yes. Send statements for each year and we prepare a workbook for each one.
